The Maximus Smart Security Light is now called the Kuna Camera Porch Light. Both products behave identically in the Kuna App.
You can improve your Camera Porch Light's performance by optimizing its settings. This article outlines our best practices for security light placement and maintenance, adjusting your settings, and improving your Wi-Fi stability.

Cleaning Your Sconce and Camera Lens
Section 1: Device Placement
Your Camera Porch Light is designed to detect motion within 10 feet. The ideal height for the camera is 7 feet off the ground, and no more than 10 feet off the ground for the best field of view. The camera has a 720p view and its lens can rotate 40 degrees up/down and left/right to help you customize your field of view. See the last step in the installation instructions here.
Section 2: Wi-Fi and Connectivity
Router Placement
Make sure your router is placed as close to your cameras as possible. Your Wi-Fi signal has to travel through exterior walls to reach your devices, which reduces its signal strength. For more information about optimizing your Wi-Fi signal in your camera's location, check out this article.
Router Settings
If your Camera Porch Light experiences service dropouts, or distortion in the live feed, it may be experiencing local network interference. To prevent this from happening, make sure your wireless router is set to a standard, non-overlapping Wi-Fi channel (1, 6 or 11).
We DO NOT recommend using a hidden Wi-Fi network during setup.
Using Extenders and Multiple Routers
Make sure your Camera Porch Light is connected to the closest Wi-Fi access point available. If you have a Wi-Fi extender, make sure the Camera Porch Light is connected to the extender, not your router. Consult your extender's manual for further details. In some cases, you'll need to take your Camera Porch Light back through the set-up process to connect it to a different access point.
Section 3: Kuna App Settings
Motion Sensitivity
The ideal setting varies depending on your local conditions. Light, motion and ambient temperature can all affect your camera's performance. You might have to experiment a little to find the right setting for your environment, with the right balance between detecting all events and getting false alarms. For more information about adjusting your motion sensitivity, check out this article.
Notifications
The Kuna App can notify you when a camera detects a motion event, but you have complete control. You can customize push notifications to:
- - Alert you when any of your cameras detect motion
- - Alert you for one camera, or only some of your cameras
- - Turn off alerts temporarily for all or some cameras (using the snooze notifications feature)
Light Schedule
The Kuna App allows you to control your light manually or set up an automatic light schedule. To make sure your camera records HD video at night, we recommend leaving the light on at night, or setting up your light to come on with motion with night.
You can set your light to:
- - Turn on when motion is detected, and then turn off after a set period of time (30 seconds, 5 minutes, etc.)
- - Turn on ONLY when motion is detected at night
- - Turn on at dusk and off at dawn
- - Turn on with a separate weekend schedule (if you prefer different settings during the week)
Play Sound on Detection
You can set up your Camera Porch Light to play a pre-recorded sound every time motion is detected. This can be turned on or off at any time in your camera settings.
Status LED
Once your Camera Porch Lights are fully online and set up, you have the option of turning off the blue status LED. Camera Porch Lights can be turned off in the app, and companion lights must be turned off manually.
Speaker Volume
To make sure your visitors can hear you at the door, go into your device settings in the Kuna App and make sure the Speaker Volume is adjusted appropriately. To control the volume of your microphone, you'll need to make sure your phone's volume is set correctly.
Section 4: Device Maintenance
Make sure to keep your light sconce clean by wiping it down and removing cobwebs.
To ensure a clear picture, clean the camera lens with optical fluid and soft cloth, or rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.
Clean the speaker with compressed air to prevent buildup of dirt and dust inside the unit.
